DP Marketing: Finding Success in Economic Uncertainty

June 25, 2020

Ryan Redding holds many titles.

Owner and Founder of DP Marketing Services is one. He’s also an author, MBA holder, husband, father and self-proclaimed nerd and coffee snob. The nerd part has something to do with radio-controlled airplanes, the hobby he tends to in his small pockets of free time.

In 2017, Ryan saw an opportunity to help main street small businesses create quality, low-cost websites. The realization of that need was the catalyst that started DP Marketing. So, what sets them apart from your run-of-the-mill marketing firm? They niche. Hardcore.

DP Marketing provides marketing services exclusively for plumbers, HVAC and home service companies.  However, this wasn’t always the case. After starting the company and subsequently spending some time hitting their heads against a wall learning customer acquisition cycles for all kinds of different industries, a client in plumbing said to them, “You know, you should only work with people like me.” Turns out, he was onto something.

Instead of chasing every business and trying to sell them, DP Marketing focuses on doing exceptional work for a very, very narrow and selective set of clients. They don’t try to be everything to everyone. They try to be the best option for a very elite group of companies.

Ryan’s book, The Book On Digital Marketing: For Plumbing & HVAC Contractors, teaches readers how to beat their competitors and use the internet to make more money.

If you ask Ryan, the entrepreneurship road hasn’t run easy. It can be lonely, stressful and confusing. But this is a topic best discussed over chips, salsa and margaritas… Take the risks and unknowns of entrepreneurship and add a constantly changing, post-COVID climate and you’ll find a lot of businesses that have suffered at its hand. However, this isn’t the story for DP Marketing. Their business has grown like crazy through an economic meltdown. Their year of growth is something like 236% and their team is constantly growing. In fact, they just added a new team member- bringing the team total to 25; six local and the rest spread across the globe.

What makes 36°N the best place to plant their local team members? Ryan says it best.

“36°N provides a great place to set up (base)camp (we see what you did there, Ryan) and scale as needed. The people in the network are top-notch.”

So, what is DP Marketing looking forward to in the next year? It’s pretty simple. Ryan hopes the team will experience a little bit less chaos. Despite the firm’s radical success during an economic crisis,  2020 also brought its fair share of stress and uncertainty, unlike any they have felt before. The team is looking forward to another year of exponential growth, and hopefully a little time to enjoy it along the way.
