Q&A with Katelyn Grubb

Where are you from and how did you end up in Tulsa?
I was born here in Tulsa and have lived here most of my life. I moved to Houston for a few years when I was young, but Tulsa is definitely home. I went to ORU for my undergrad and then moved to Norman to start my masters. Since getting this job, I have moved back to Tulsa and am now finishing my masters at OSU Tulsa. I am really proud of how Tulsa is growing and very thankful I get to be a part of it again!

What’re your favorite things to do in your free time?
Reading and writing are two of my passions; however, I will also never pass up a Netflix opportunity.

Favorite local restaurants?
I love Tally’s, Antoinette’s, and Dilly Diner. Honestly Tulsa food is one of the things I brag on to people who ask me what I love about Tulsa - I don’t know where you could go wrong.

If you were to start your own business, what would it be and why?
Growing up, one thing that has always been hard for me is watching elderly people eat by themselves - for some reason I just can’t handle it. I’ve always had this dream of creating a restaurant that was a diner/hangout for older people where the environment was for them to mingle, sit with strangers, and get to know people in similar stages of life. Sort of like a meet-and-greet/hibachi grill feel where everyone knows everyone and meeting new people is the culture of the restaurant.

Favorite memory of 2018 so far?
My favorite memory of 2018 would be either graduating from ORU or going to Dublin with my family as a graduation present. I truly haven’t seen a more beautiful landscape in person than in Ireland.

What song would you sing at Karaoke Night?
No question - Man I Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain. I have known every word to this song since I was three years old.

If you could splurge a whole paycheck on any store, which store would it be?
I definitely have a shopping problem, so I would say H&M or Gap for sure.

What are three things you would take with you on a deserted island and why?
I would take spinach and artichoke dip because it’s my favorite, along with the book And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, oh and someone to talk to because i’m an ESFJ.

What characteristics do you most admire in others?
I really respect people who are able to be vulnerable when getting to know someone. People have so much depth to them, and being able to explore that is one of my favorite things. Being able to carry yourself with integrity and know how to live a life that exudes grace is really important to me and in the relationships I have with people.
