Dylan Goforth is the editor-in-chief at The Frontier, a digital media startup committed to bringing their audience top-notch investigative journalism, with a focus on government transparency.

Where and when do you get your best ideas? I tend to read other investigative journalism and try to force myself to think outside the box. Not really "How can I localize this?" but "What did they miss?" and "What other records exist that they didn't get?"

What’s a work tool or ritual that you couldn’t live without? When I'm writing a story and get stuck, I take a walk around downtown and try to write a portion of the story in my head.

What skill would you like to master? Excel.

What advice would you give to someone seeking to launch or grow a business? I guess just don't let your good sense keep you from being ambitious.

What’s a big “win” you experienced in the past year? Twice in the last year we have seen founding members of the company leave for other jobs, and we have replaced them with two incredibly strong reporters. Had we been less successful or less stable, it would have been unlikely we could have convinced two reporters of that caliber to join us. Instead we just plugged in the two new reporters and kept chugging along. In fact, our last 3 months have probably been our best yet.

What are you most looking forward to in the year to come? Hopefully expanding our staff further.

Why 36 Degrees North? We've been here since Day 1 and have gotten a lot of mileage out of utilizing other 36 Degrees North members and their specialties.

Do you want to give any shout-outs? I want to make it clear that, while I will not be doing any shout-outs, I specifically will not be shouting out Lauren. Thank you and good night.
